Why Do We Question?
In Bible Study Fellowship this week, we studied Isaiah 45. These verses jumped out at me ...
9 “Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker,
those who are nothing but potsherds
among the potsherds on the ground.
Does the clay say to the potter,
‘What are you making?’
Does your work say,
‘The potter has no hands’?
10 Woe to the one who says to a father,
‘What have you begotten?’
or to a mother,
‘What have you brought to birth?’
11 “This is what the LORD says—
the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker:
Concerning things to come,
do you question me about my children,
or give me orders about the work of my hands?
12 It is I who made the earth
and created mankind on it.
Who are we to question what the Lord has for us?
Who are we to question what the Lord's plans are for others?
(did you read, "When Family & Friends Reject God's Call On Your Life"?)
God is the Potter ... we are the Clay.
Who are we to even think about trying to tell the Potter what He needs to make out of the Clay?
"Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker ..."
No. I don't want to quarrel with Him.
I so desire that the Lord would make me into whatever HE desires of me.
I am proud to be a rather unique design.
I don't want to look like all of the other "pots" ...
... even if they think I am an odd-shaped pot.
... even if they don't understand my design.
... even if they make fun of the design
that God created me to be.
I am proud to be Uniquely Me.
I am proud that my family is Uniquely Not-Normal.
I am so glad that we are following God's Unique Journey, the one that He planned Just For Us.
I hope that you, too, are ready to CELEBRATE that God has made you Uniquely You.
I pray that you are willing to allow God to make you into whatever He has designed you to be.
Let's do something fun, and share with each other 1 or 2 things about you or your family that you believe God has designed you for ... something that makes you, Uniquely You.

I think God has designed our family to be a walking billboard of testimony. We stick out in crowds and it is a unique situation to be able to testify....to how God spared my life and healed me, to how God brought our children to us, how people of different skin colors can love so deeply......
ReplyDeleteHmmm.....love this post....go check it out.... to any mother...

What a great question!!
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, it's not that easy to answer. Not because I don't know the answer, but because sharing it feels a little like bragging. Or maybe that's just because I'm English??
But here goes.
God has designed me to be someone who welcomes, appreciates and releases into ministry people who are unique and who don't fit easily into church or society. I lead a small church, called, appropriately enough, Church Without Walls.
This gift makes our church a slightly unpredictable and, in my view, very wonderful place to be.
A couple of weeks back, a homeless guy wandered in during worship. So I made him a cup of tea and he asked for money to buy a valentine's card for his girlfriend. I told him I wasn't going to give him any money, but that we'd got some craft stuff, if he'd like to make a card. He and I spent 20 minutes, while everyone else was singing, making a card for his girlfriend. It was a truly holy moment.
10 days ago, I had a conversation with someone who I've known for ages, who has been a Christian for ages but who has not settled in any conventional way into a church for years. He has a gift for working with the homeless and loves to do it. But has a habit of falling out with churches that run homeless ministries because he doesn't like the way they treat people.
10 days ago, I said to him, "If you would like to run something for the homeless, the way you think it should be done, I will support you."
Yesterday, his breakfast and a haircut ministry for the homeless started. Today, three people attended church as a result of that. They stayed about 30 minutes. And had tea and cake with us. Of course, being Church Without Walls, they brought their dog...
I love being the person God made me!
